Our other A4 flatbed scanner with a transparency adaptor however does not work on Vista at all. Although the Epson Perfection 2480 Photo (this one came along with Multi Phoot Feeder) keeps colors fairly accurate, I am disapointed when it comes to scanning photos, papers and the like on the flatbed.

One thing I did notice is the ease of networking, not that it's difficult in XP but the laptop found my wireless router right away and was in after granting the appropriate permissions & entering the access pwd etc Regarding Vista in the workplace, it'll never replace XP imo due to costs plus (maybe not so much now) compatibility etc.I have to say that after never really having gave Vista a chance for home use until now, I'm pleasantly surprised.

My main PC however only has XP Pro SP2 setup as dual-boot on one partition with Mandrake linux on another partition.no Vista Without intentionally starting an OS debate, I must confess Vista came installed on the laptop & instead of formatting the drive and installing on a bare drive as I usually do, I never got around to it and had settled in to Vista before I knew it thus it's been left as is. It's not a new one so I was concerned about marks on the glass but it's been kept in good condition.another wee score courtesy of that auction site

Nonetheless it's working great and I'm really very happy with the quality of this 2480 I'm using. Get another (new & powerful) machine to do, in this case, photographic post-processing.īrook thanks for the link my friend, I'm sure it was v3.04A I d/loaded but on checking, I see it's v3.04E Dedicate a machine to run only that, disconnect it from any network in order to protect it (once sec updates become unavailable) and let it trundle along. If something is working fine - and it is performing a crucial function - it should better be left alone. Especially from those with SCSI scanners.įor some applications in my 24 years in IT, I have learned that the latest and greatest OS is not a necessarily good choice. Just searching these forums for Vista and one will see lots of threads asking for assistance. Then again, if even Steve Ballmer of Microsoft finally admitted that Vista was "not that good" then it must mean something.

Granted, my industry is a conservative one, so the software we use is sometimes of an old design. Brooks, I work for an automotive company where we have to use computers for vehicle diagnostics among other things.
